Encino

Encino is named for the Spanish word for oak tree and is beloved for its tree-lined neighborhoods. Known as the “bedroom of the stars” in the 1940s and 1950s, the area continues to attract those seeking a quiet life that offers plenty of parks and recreation.

Real Estate: In its beginnings, Encino had many larger homes often with significant acreage and room for horses. Spanish-style architecture was prevalent. The post-war boom led to the creation of smaller single family homes. The area also includes townhomes, apartments and gated communities. The Amestoy Estates area is a prestigious community with larger homes for sale. Ventura Boulevard serves as a divider in the city with many defining where they live as north or south of the boulevard.

Community Life: Encino has ample space for recreation. The Sepulveda Basin Recreation area includes the Balboa Sports center, several parks, golf courses, tennis courts, a dog park and more. The Encino Velodrome is part of the Encino Franklin Fields recreational area. Encino Commons is a retail area known as the Valley’s Miracle Mile and Ventura Boulevard is lined with shops and restaurants.

Education: Encino is served by the Los Angeles Unified School District. Local elementary schools include Lanai Road Elementary and Emilita Street Elementary as well as several charter schools, Hesby Oaks Leadership Charter School and Encino Charter Elementary. There are several private schools in the area such as Carmelite Crespi High School,Sage Academy, Westmark School, and Los Encinos School.

Transportation: Encino is easily accessed by the 101 Freeway. The area has multiple stops of the Metro Orange line and is served by multiple bus routes.

Local Attractions: Balboa Lake is a major attraction and is home to many events throughout the year. Los Encinos State Historic Park is home to De La Ossa Adobe which was built in 1849 and is available for tours by appointment.
